In 2016, after the U-19 World Cup, Joseph was selected for the West Indies International Test team. He made his debut against India. He was selected in the squad for the third Test of the series by former West Indies cricketer Joel Garner, the former top-ranked bowler in ODIs.
On 2 October 2016, Alzarri made his debut in the One-Day International (ODI) against Pakistan, the second ODI of the series, and scored in the 10th over. Taking two wickets.
In 2017, he suffered a stress fracture in his back and had to undergo surgery. After seven months of surgery, he played a few games for the state team, but the board again placed him on bed rest, saying he was not ready for international cricket. In 2019, he made his comeback in the Test series against England. During the game, he received news that his mother, who had been seriously ill for a long time, passed away. He finished the day and completed all his duties before going home to grieve. To everyone’s surprise, he came the next day and played the rest of the game. Asked about his presence, he said: “My mother would have wanted me to fulfill my duty to my motherland”. West Indies and England dedicated the match to his mother and West Indies also won that match.
In 2019, he was selected for the Indian Premier League (IPL), replacing Adam Milne of Mumbai Indians. Alzarri remains on the same contract; being a substitute cricketer cannot be paid more than the player he is replacing. In the first match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he broke the 11-year-old IPL record held by Sohail Tanveer for the best bowling performance in IPL history. His bowling figures were 6/12.
Joseph was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs. The IPL 2024 auction will be held on December 19, 2023 at a price of Rs 1,150 crore; the auction will be held at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
