Megachurch Bishop T.D. Jakes Experiences 'Health Incident' Onstage After Sermon, Church Says He Is 'Stable'

TD Jakes, a well-known Christian pastor and motivational speaker, suffered a “mild medical incident” after giving a sermon this weekend.

On Sunday, November 24, a statement shared on Jakes’ official social media pages said the bishop, 67, was “under the care of medical professionals” and was “stable” after he was seen pausing and surrounded by a group of people during a sermon at The Potter’s House of Dallas, which was widely shared via livestream.

“During today’s service, Bishop TD Jakes experienced a minor health issue and received emergency medical attention following his powerful hour-long message,” the church said in a statement. “Bishop Jakes is stable and under the care of medical professionals.”

“The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support from the community. Thank you for your understanding and continued prayers,” the statement concluded.

While speaking on stage, Jakes could be seen sitting on a chair and wiping his head with a cloth, before telling the audience that preaching is about “getting more than you give”.

Moments later, after speaking a few more words, Jakes lowered the mic and looked down before seemingly cringing. Several people on stage gathered around the motivational speaker to help him, before the live stream was apparently cut short.

Jakes founded the non-denominational, multicultural church back in 1996, according to its website. It has 30,000 members — it operates as a non-profit organization with its main campus in south Dallas.

According to the church’s Instagram page, the service began at 9 a.m. CT Sunday for what it called “an opportunity to soak up the warmth of family, feel the presence of the Holy Spirit and receive the life-changing Word.” ”

Jakes encouraged churchgoers to attend — either online or in person — on Sunday, writing on his personal Instagram that he’s “ready to share what God has given me with YOU.” Several followers have since shown support below the post, wishing Jakes a speedy recovery and asking for more information on his health.
