Amanda Seyfried Celebrates Dog Finn's 14th Birthday: 'Finn Stories All Day'

The Oscar-nominated actress made a cake from scratch for her beloved dog on his special day

Amanda Seyfried is celebrating her dog Finn’s 14th birthday in a big way!

In a special birthday post on her Instagram on Friday, the 37-year-old Oscar-nominated actress paid tribute to her Australian Shepherd – who she rescued as a puppy – by sharing a collection of cute and funny photos and videos featuring him.

Seyfried began her tribute with a shot of Finn running towards the camera with his big tail wagging. “He feels himself today and every day,” she wrote in the description of the video.

In another video, she rubs Finn’s ear and tells him: “Who’s the birthday boy? Who is the birthday boy? Who is 14 years old? You are. That’s right. That’s right.”

The animal lover also included photos of Finn, who she said changed her life, wearing a colorful striped shirt and appearing to hold a cup of coffee with a bowl of cereal in front of her. In another shot, the puppy is dressed in a white collar and teal bow tie. Another photo shows him with headphones in front of an old boombox.

The Mean girls the star even baked a dog-friendly birthday cake from scratch to mark the special occasion. The recipe – which she shared on her Instagram Story – included grated carrot, honey, egg, peanut butter and whole wheat flour.

For the “frosting” she used a thin layer of peanut butter and coconut chips. She covered the special cake with six long candles.

In the photo with his cake, Finn, with a birthday hat on top of his head, looked adorably a little confused. “I feel the same way about my birthday, Finny. But we will celebrate you anyway! Full fourteen. The best years I never saw coming,” the dog’s mom joked in the caption.

Seyfried has shared in the past how much Finn meant to her.

“I’m obsessed with my dog,” she told PEOPLE in 2010. “He’s become my son and my light and kind of a savior for a lot of people.”

In her late teens and early twenties, Seyfried struggled with anxiety until she met “the one” — Finn — on the set of her HBO series Big Lovewhich lasted from 2006 to 2011.

“As soon as he became mine, about 24 hours after I got him, I knew something about me needed him,” Seyfried later shared with PEOPLE in 2019. “He completely changed my life and helped me find my solitude and independence. When you have a lifestyle like I did when I was in my early twenties, there was no constant.”

Seyfried explained that Finn helped her in a career where there are so many unknowns. “It was just hard to know where I was going to be next month because of my career,” she continued. “That’s why I got it.”

She also talked about how her Finn inspired her to stand up for homeless pets.

“People think they won’t be easy to train behaviorally or that they’re emotionally unstable,” she told PEOPLE. “But that can be true for any animal. People also say, ‘But I want a puppy!’ You can still save puppies. And there’s nothing wrong with an adult dog either — often you don’t even have to train it.”
