Amanda Seyfried Shares Why She Left Hollywood for a 'More Balanced Life': 'The Best Decision'

Amanda Seyfried opens up about why she traded the bright lights of LA for a quiet life on an East Coast farm.

The 38-year-old actress shared her story with Forbes about first leaving Hollywood for New York just as her star was on the rise, and later, still overstimulated by city life, for a farm in upstate New York.

“I moved upstate long before I had a family,” he said Mama Mia and Mean girls the star, who is now a mother of two, says. “Staying here is the best decision because of privacy, peace and nature,”

“It offers a more balanced life than the city,” she continues, adding that the move was “key to my mental health.”

Her farmhouse in the Catskills region exudes peace, and the rural location allows her to tackle the “high energy of press events and on-set life” while working in show business, she told the outlet.

Horses, chickens, cats, goats, donkeys, ducks and the actress’ 15-year-old dog Finn all call the farm home. She admits that caring for animals is a “learning curve” but “exciting”.

Living in the country has also given her the opportunity to teach her children valuable lessons, she says. Nina, 7, and Thomas, 4, learn the benefits of small, local farms and how to grow their own produce, as well as how to eat mindfully and show respect and kindness to animals.

“I see them learning what pet care is pet care, even when they’re young,” Seyfried says.
