One of the most significant episodes of the TV series was the death of Mihir Virani (played by Amar) in the Star Plus TV series “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi” (2000). The audience did not like the twist of the show and according to media sources, some fans of the show staged a protest march in front of the offices of Balaji Television and Films. Allegedly, Balaji Films received various calls and letters requesting Amar to return to the sets. Even Amal has received messages, letters and calls from fans asking to reprise her role in the series. Later, the crew decided to bring back the character of Mihir Virani, the first character in an Indian TV series to be brought back after a death scene. Later, the role of Mihir was played by Indian actor Inder Kumar, who was later replaced by Ronit Roy. In an interview, Amal shared his reasons for quitting the show, saying:
When I left Kunki, it was a difficult decision because I had so much work to do. I have three films under my belt and have directed six projects. As an actor, I shouldn’t be so greedy. Today, I’ll stick with Kunki and make them wait. I wasn’t sleeping well and it was taking a toll on my body and mind. I couldn’t give myself time and forget about my family. Everyone was bothered, including my producers, because I couldn’t give them time to shoot. Dating is such a mess. Some people gave me an ultimatum that if I left midway, some producers would go bankrupt. I created a lot of confusion with dates. “
He further said that he has no dispute with Ekta Kapoor. He said,
The alleged feud with Ekta Kapoor was exaggerated by the media because 8-9 months after Inder Kumar left the set, she again proposed Mihir to me Mihir’s role. When he left, she came back to me. I was still making movies at that time. I’m not ready yet. I think if I go back again, there will still be a date issue. I told her to wait 3-4 months, but she wasn’t ready to wait.
