Created by Michael Cohen, a cognitive scientist at MIT and Amherst College, the deceptive video is a demonstration of “gradual change blindness”.

It at first seems to show a still, unchanging picture of “the waiting room of a science laboratory”.

But by the end, the video reveals how many objects have slowly changed colour, moved or vanished entirely without people noticing.

“While trying to prepare a novel example of this phenomenon for students, I realised that I could change dozens of items without observers noticing,” Cohen, who teaches cognitive neuroscience at Amherst College, said.

“Overall, this illusion highlights how people may actually perceive and remember far more of the world around them than they intuitively realise.”

Fans voted the amazing clip one of the top three most impressive optical illusions of the year in an annual contest held by the Neural Correlate Society.

Meanwhile, another mind-bobbling illusion has left people scratching their heads as they try to work out which way the chair is facing.

Recently, a viral TikTok video explained how our mind is tricked by moving colours.

Another tricky visual claims to tell you which side of your brain you favour the most.

And what do YOU see first in this optical illusion? Whatever you do will reveal your most annoying personality trait.
