Amber Heard Wraps Justice League Snyder Cut Reshoots

Amber Heard has wrapped up her reshoots for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and the actress is excited for fans to see it. Heard plays Mera in the film. She reprised the role in Aquaman following the original release of Justice League in 2017. The actress will play Mera again in Aquaman 2 despite many fan’s wish that she be replaced. Over 1.5 million have signed a petition asking Warner Bros to remove the actress from the film because of her ongoing legal battles with ex-husband Johnny Depp.

Heard’s role in Justice League was relatively minor, with the actress making a brief appearance when Jason Momoa’s Aquaman went to Atlantis to retrieve one of the Mother Boxes. Heard’s role in Aquaman was substantially larger, and her role in Aquaman 2 is expected to be prominent, as well. Fans will get to see her again in Snyder’s cut of Justice League, expected to hit HBO Max as a four-part miniseries in the first half of 2021. Aquaman 2 is currently slated for a December 2022 release.

Heard expressed her excitement for The Snyder Cut, as it was once known, to ComicBook. The actress, who will appear next in CBS All Access’ remake of Stephen King’s The Stand, confirmed that she had finished shooting additional scenes for Justice League and that she looked forward to its release. Heard praised director Zack Snyder and his nerdiness and the community of fans surrounding the DCEU.

I’m super excited about it. We just wrapped on reshoots and I just love nerds. I f*cking love nerds, excuse my language. I’m super excited about the amount of fan love and the amount of fan appreciation that Aquaman has acquired and that it has garnered so much excitement for Aquaman and Mera that it means we’ll be coming back. I’m so excited to film that.

The fact that Heard has shot new scenes for Justice League is exciting. While fans saw plenty of her in Aquaman, the actress’ role in the superhero team-up was brief. With Aquaman 2 at least two years away, her appearance in the film will be a small tease before her larger role in the sequel, which is said to be darker than the first. What’s in these extra scenes is under wraps, but it could be anything from an extended scene in Atlantis to more interactions with Aquaman before he joins Batman’s team.

Mera was last seen at the end of Aquaman as Arthur Curry ascended to the throne of Atlantis. Plot details about Aquaman 2 are under wraps, but it’s nice to see the actress so positive about the film amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding her role in the franchise. However, it must be noted that, even with the reshoots, Zack Snyder’s Justice League will only include five minutes of additional footage. Still, there’s plenty of original footage that Snyder shot that wasn’t included in Joss Whedon’s cut, leaving the door open for Mera’s reappearance, as brief as it may be.
