America Ferrera Supports Ryan Gosling Over Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s Oscar Snubs: ‘So Well Said’

On Wednesday, Ferrera (39) shared it Barbie Costa’s statement about Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie’s disdain at the Oscars via her Instagram Story captioned with the comment “Oh Ryan. Very well said.”

It comes after Gosling, 43 — who received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role as Ken in the film — issued a strong statement on Tuesday following the announcement of the 2024 Oscar nominations.

“To say I’m disappointed they weren’t nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” Gosling said of Gerwig, 40, and Robbie, 33, after missing out on nominations for best director and best actress.

While Gosling said he was “extremely honored to be nominated,” the father of two added that “there’s no Ken without Barbie. And there’s Barbie a movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.”

He went on to call Gerwig and Robbie, “the two people most responsible for this globally acclaimed, history-making film.”

Just hours after the nominations were announced on Tuesday, Ferrera – who was herself nominated for Best Supporting Actress – has already revealed she is “incredibly disappointed” that her co-stars were also not mentioned.

Speaking with Diversity, actress Gloria said: “Greta did everything a director can do to deserve it. Creating this world and taking something that had no inherent value to most people and creating a global phenomenon. It’s disappointing not to see her on that list.”

As for Robbie, who has received two Oscar nominations in the past [Best Actress for I, Tonya in 2018 and Best Supporting Actress for Bombshell in 2019] Ferrera told the outlet what [she] achieved as an actress is “truly amazing” in Barbie.

“One of the things about Margot as an actress is how easy she makes everything. And maybe people have been fooled into thinking that the job seems easy,” she said.

“But Margot is a magician as an actress in front of the screen and it was one of the honors of my career to see her give an incredible performance,” she added to the newspaper.

Gerwig and Robbie weren’t completely absent on Tuesday. The director was nominated as one of Barbiescreenwriters for best adapted screenplay, while Robbie received a nomination for best film as the film’s producer. All in all, Barbie it received eight nominations, which ranks it fourth among all nominated films.
