American Pie Cast Recalls Going to 'Naughty' Strip Club with Director During Filming: 'Seems Appropriate'

The American Pie the gang got into wild shenanigans both on and off screen.

Stars Chris Klein, Tara Reid, Thomas Ian Nicholas and Eddie Kaye Thomas reunited for a panel during Rhode Island Comic Con on Nov. 1, moderated by PEOPLE’s Dory Jackson. While there, as the group reminisced about their time working on the franchise, Reid shared a hilarious behind-the-scenes tidbit.

“I didn’t go with them, but I remember when you all went to a bad club for lunch,” said Reid, who played Vicky Lathum. “Strip club.”

The group said this happened during the build American Pie 2which premiered in 2001. Reid remarked while discussing the production of the film during which it happened, “No, no American Reunion. That strip club, I came with you.”

“We are appearing at the rehearsal for American Pie 2 and our director was a wonderful man named JB Rogers. We sat and talked for about five minutes and there was a lull in the conversation,” recalled Thomas, who played Paul Finch.

“He says, ‘Do you want to go to the strip club across the street?’ and we said, ‘Yeah, we want to go to the strip club across the street, it seems appropriate.’ And I don’t think we practiced?” Klein, who played Chris Ostreicher, chimed in and said, “I don’t think we are.”

“JB actually said, ‘You know your characters more than I could ever help you,'” Nicholas, who played Kevin Myers, added, “And I’m pretty sure you all treated me to my first lap dance on that lane the club.”

At that discovery, Thomas said, “There it is,” while Klein added, “You’re welcome!”

The film’s success in the late 90s spawned a film franchise, with most of the main cast appearing in sequels. American Pie 2, American wedding and American Reunion. There were also multiple direct-to-video spinoffs that lived below American Pie represents umbrella. As the first film celebrated its 25th anniversary in July, Biggs teamed up with Edwards Desserts to reinvent American Piethe iconic pie scene — but now, in a family way. At the time, he also spoke to PEOPLE about the film’s legacy and its loyal fans.

“What that time gave me was perspective and a real appreciation of the impact that film had around the world,” said Biggs, 46. “Everywhere I travel, people want to talk to me about it. Now there’s another generation or two of people who saw the film, identified with the film, loved the film. It was a really, really special thing for me.”

Biggs also noted that the OG movie “changed my life in so many ways,” saying, “I really feel that with the fans today. Every time someone comes up to me — and that’s every day — it’s such a positive interaction. People have nothing but good things to say.”
