The National Weather Service in Los Angeles warned residents on Monday of a “life threatening” and “destructive” storm to hit Southern California, bringing significant fire danger.

The cause of the Pacific Palisades fire is under investigation, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Homes in the foothills of that neighborhood were ordered to evacuate Tuesday morning.

LA officials say the fire spread quickly in just a few hours, covering nearly 800 hectares as of 2:20 p.m. local time. More than 250 LA firefighters responded to the ongoing emergency.
