There is a new one America has talent winner in town!

After weeks of fierce competition, Richard Goodall, a singing janitor from Terre Haute, Indiana who received one of judge Heidi Klum’s Golden Buzzers, was announced as the season 19 winner on Tuesday, September 24th.

Goodall, 55, walked away with the title and the $1 million top prize — as well as a new wife, he revealed during Tuesday’s finale.

“My brain is completely messed up at this point. Surreal doesn’t even cover what happened,” Goodall told PEOPLE after his win. “This has been an absolute rollercoaster and now it’s ended with absolute gold dust flying everywhere.”

Before the exciting moment, Goodall was already on cloud nine as he was set to perform “Don’t Stop Believin'” — the same song he originally auditioned for — alongside members of Journey. Things took a turn for the better for the Indiana native when he confirmed that he recently got married to his partner Ang.

“I flew out for the audition by the seat of my pants. I’d never been on a plane, I’d never been west of Missouri, and I was just going to fly out, sing a song, fly home and maybe tell somebody I was on the show and have a little YouTube video as well everyone else,” Goodall explained to PEOPLE. “I wasn’t dreaming [of this].”

“There are bin lists and then top shelf bin lists,” he added. “You didn’t even know it was up there on the top shelf. This is an absolute list [item] that I couldn’t even [think] or dreamed.”

America has talent Reveals Its 10 Finalists for Season 19: Meet the Artists Competing for the $1 Million Prize (Exclusive)

As the finale continued, the 10 finalists — Goodall, Brent Street, Sky Elements, Learnmore Jonasi, Sebastian & Sonia, Dee Dee Simon, Solange Kardinaly, Hakuna Matata Acrobats, Rhythm and Roni and AIRFOOTWORKS — were whittled down, and host Terry Crews announced the first five acts.

Those places were taken by Goodall, Jonasi, Kardinaly, Sky Elements and Rhythm and Roni. Then Terry continued, revealing that comedian Jonasi finished in fifth place, quick-change artist Kardinaly came in fourth, and drone show specialists Sky Elements landed in third place.

With the last two acts remaining, the audience was on the edge of their seats to find out who would win the ultimate title. In the end, Terry revealed that Goodall was the winner.

“People say it all the time, but it means everything to Ang and me,” Goodall told PEOPLE after the exciting moment, referring to his now-wife. “It gives us a chance and an opportunity to do something different, get a nice house and give back to the people.”

Klum added: “I’m more excited for him. I know this is going to change his life. He got married … and all of America fell in love with him, and also now he’s going home as this incredible hero back to his town and his school. I’m sure that he will continue to do his job because I feel that is just the kind of man he is, he loves his job and he loves the children he sees every day and the teachers.”

When asked what the first thing Ang said to him after winning, Goodall joked, “She said, ‘I’m going to get my house … and a hair dryer!'”

He added seriously, “She means everything to me. I couldn’t have gone through this without her. I mean, it was hard enough going through the audition round without her, and then when we got to the quarters, she was with me every time.”

Despite what he has AGT titles under his belt, Goodall said he intends to return to work as a janitor at Chauncey Rose High School — but only “for a little while.”

“Then we’ll see what opportunities come our way, and then Angie and I will make those decisions together,” he said, adding of the prize money, “We’re going to put something in and then get a nice house, and then just see what opportunities come our way .”

For now, Goodall is simply soaking up every moment of it AGT experience.

“This whole week has been an absolute dream,” he said. “An absolute dream I don’t want to wake up from.”
