Amit Shah can present 3 proposals for criminal laws

The center will introduce new criminal legislation bills in the middle of the winter session of Parliament in response to several proposals from a parliamentary committee. On Tuesday, the three revised laws will be presented to the parliament. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita Bill and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam Bill aim to replace the Indian Evidence Act 1872, the Indian Penal Code 1860 and the Criminal Procedure Code 1898, respectively. The Center this week approved the submission of a proposal to amend the penal code to replace the pre-colonial laws. It is said that on two issues related to adultery and homosexuality, the parliamentary standing committee and the cabinet do not agree.

The Cabinet rejected the Committee’s proposals to reinstate the law on adultery, and Section 377 of the IPC was neither reinstated nor remained in force. Three British-era statutes are being repealed and replaced by new measures, which were tabled in parliament on August 11 during the monsoon session. “Amendments to the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, 2023 have been proposed in response to the committee’s suggestions. He informed Parliament that a new bill was being introduced to replace the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, 2023. Regarding Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, two identical withdrawal statements were also made. Shah urged the Speaker to refer the proposals to the standing committee for a lengthy debate soon after they were tabled in the Lok Sabha on August 11.
