Cardi B and Offset have reportedly been having relationship issues for some time.
A source tells PEOPLE exclusively, “They are boisterous. They broke up and got back together and broke up again a lot more than the public saw.”
However, the insider added: “They really had a great time together.”
The exclusion comes after Cardi, 31, said she and her husband, also 31, have been separated for a long time.

“I’ve been alone for a minute,” she said, according to a livestream clip shared on X. The video circulated on social media on Monday.
During the video, the Grammy winner said she wants to start the new year “fresh” and “open,” as she admitted, “I’m curious about a new life, a new beginning. And yes… I’m excited.”
The rapper’s representatives did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Cardi and Offset quietly married in 2017 and have two children — daughter Kulture Kiari, 5, and son Wave Seth, 2.
The “Handsome and Rich” rapper also has sons Jordan and Kody Cephus, as well as a daughter Kalea Marie Cephus from previous relationships.
During the Live, the “Bongos” artist said that some may have predicted the breakup.
“I don’t know if you guys were getting clues from me, from my lives or from my stories, when I put on some music or find my unfollow,” Cardi said. Her statement was seemingly in response to fans who noticed that she and Offset had unfollowed each other on Instagram last week.

She also recently posted some cryptic messages on her Instagram stories about growing out of relationships and putting yourself first.
The couple celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary in September.
The “I Like It” rapper uploaded a video to Instagram showing how Offset surprised her with a large flower arrangement in the center of their staircase.
“Thank you so much baby 💕,” Cardi began in the lengthy post as she expressed her gratitude.

“Thank you for the flowers, empowerment, protection and for being a great father to our children. I love so much about you,” she said, adding that she loved how he took the time to “study” her.
The following month, while he was a guest on Call her dad podcast, Offset shared what attracted him to the “WAP” rapper.

“She didn’t care … what nobody thought. And it’s like damn, it’s fire. Funny, great personality, from what I could see, you know what I’m saying? Like that’s a funny girl, she’s a cool girl , and then I shot and snorted,” he said, adding that he was moved by her devotion to her family.
Rapper Migos also spoke about how they were able to rebuild trust in their relationship after previous cheating allegations.
“First as respect for her position, right? We are both public figures, we are both in the public eye. Stop being selfish. You’re married to this woman, be committed to her,” Offset said.
