Amy Schumer Shares 'No Filter' Selfie After Revelation About Her Cushing Syndrome Diagnosis

Amy Schumer feels good — no filters needed.

On Saturday, Jan. 25, the actress and comedian, 43, shared a “no filter” selfie on Instagram just days after revealing that people trolling her appearance online had an unexpected outcome: her diagnosis of Cushing’s syndrome, which she first discovered in February 2024.

Schumer shared a casual selfie, showing a gentle smile while resting her hand on her head, on her Instagram Stories, where she revealed she used “no filter.” The star also shared the same photo, in which she is wearing a simple charcoal gray sweatshirt, online.

“What can I say,” she captioned the last post, “It was a good night.”

The raw selfie comes three days after the comedian revealed on a podcast that she wouldn’t have known she had Cushing’s syndrome if it weren’t for internet trolls.

In the episode of January 22 Call her dadSchumer told host Alex Cooper that “a year ago, the internet really came for me,” referring to commenters who harshly criticized her suddenly swollen appearance.

The A train accident the actress said she initially ignored the comments — that is, until actual doctors started commenting on possible diagnoses based on the swelling she experienced. “The doctors chimed in,” she told Cooper, 30, “and they said, ‘No, no … something’s really going on. Your face looks so crazy.’ ”

Some of the medical experts weighing in, Schumer recalled, thought she might have Cushing’s syndrome, which occurs when the stress hormone cortisol stays in the body too long, according to the Mayo Clinic. It is caused by taking steroids over a long period of time and leads to symptoms including weight gain, acne and extreme swelling of the face called “moon face”.

“At first,” Schumer said, she thought, “F— off,” but then realized that the Internet diagnosis might still have some validity.

The star received steroid injections to treat scars left from a breast reduction and C-section — she welcomed son Gene, 5, with husband Chris Fischer in 2019 — and “it gave me this thing called Cushing’s syndrome — which I wouldn’t have knew that the internet didn’t go down that hard for me,” she explained.

Later in the discussion, Schumer explained that she had “got rid of” her Cushing’s symptoms, but before stepping in front of the cameras for her upcoming comedy Kind of pregnantshe felt vulnerable when it came to her appearance on screen.

“I was very depressed before I started shooting this film,” she said Call her dad host. “I was really having trouble figuring out how I was going to act in a movie when I had this.”

But, Schumer recalled, it only took a friend — director Lorraine Caffery, to be exact — to get her back on track to tackle the role. “I just needed one person to strengthen me,” she said.
