Anahat Singh started playing squash when he was eight years old. Initially, she was interested in playing badminton, but after watching her sister Amira play squash, she also started playing squash. I used to play with my sister for about 15-20 minutes, but it wasn’t a big deal since I mainly pursued badminton… My sister was in Bangladesh for a tournament and I followed her, so I joined that too. But then I started doing well and I started practicing more. Badminton is a very popular sport and I could have easily taken it up… but squash is the sport I prefer. I need to do what interests me most, not what is more popular. “
Initially, she was coached by her sister and later trained by national-level squash players such as Amjad Khan and Ashraf Hussain. In 2019, she competed at the British Open Squash Championships, her first international competition, and won a gold medal in the U-11 category. Later in 2019, Anahat Singh participated in the Asian Junior Squash Individual Championships and won a bronze medal. In 2020, she participated in the British Junior Squash Open and won a silver medal. Later that year, Anahat Singh participated in the Malaysian Junior Squash Open and won a silver medal. In December 2021, she participated in the U.S. Youth Open Squash Championships and won the gold medal in the U-15 group. In the final, she defeated Egyptian squash player Jada Marel with a score of 3-1. Anahat became the first Indian women’s squash player to win the US Open title in any category.
At the beginning of 2022, she participated in the Dutch Youth Open and the German Youth Open and won gold medals in both events. In June 2022, Anahat Singh participated in the Asian Youth Squash Championships held in Thailand and won the gold medal in the U-15 group. In June 2022, she participated in the national selection camp in Chennai. There, she managed to defeat her opponents and become part of the Indian team for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. I was shocked that I got picked because I didn’t think I could make it, but now I’m super excited. I was worried at first about being in camp with these experienced players, but they were really nice and helpful and they helped me feel comfortable and fit in. “
On July 30, 2022, she participated in the adult competition for the first time at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, defeating Jada Rose 3-0.
