Talking about how he started his skating career, Anandkumar Velkumar said:
My sister is already taking roller skating training. When she finally makes it to the national team, I also want to start representing India. Every time she hits a milestone in skating, I know I’ll do the same. I started skating for fun when I was six years old. Gradually, I got selected at the district level, state level, etc. Then, I won the national gold medal in the 8-10 years age group. Skaters start the game on quad skates (one wheel at each corner of the skate). However, in international competitions, inline skates (a wheel at each corner of the skate) must be used to compete. However, in international competitions, in-line skates must be used for competition. “Inline skates (the wheels are in a straight line). So, I switched to inline skates and started training with them.”
Anandkumar Velkumar won the silver medal in the 15km elimination event in the men’s youth category at the 2021 Inline Skating World Championships in Iwag. Anandkumar recorded a time of 24.14.845 seconds while it was raining.
After receiving the medal, Anand Kumar issued a statement,
I can’t express my feelings, this is India’s first medal. It was difficult, especially in the rain, with so much pushing and everyone slipping. I was just thinking; we’re going to cross the finish line, don’t fall because it’s really hard in the rain. “
Anand Kumar and his relay team won the bronze medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. The team includes Anandkumat Velkumar, Siddhant Rahul Kamble and Vikram Rajendra Ingale who finished third in the men’s 3000m speed skating relay.
Anand Kumar also finished sixth in the men’s 10,000-meter speed skating elimination event at the 19th Asian Games. Anand Kumar said after winning the relay medal:
It’s a really tough game. This was my first time competing in the senior category, so it was a great experience racing with them. Winning a medal is a dream come true and all the people of India will be happy. ”
