Andie MacDowell shares some of the staples in her makeup collection — and explains why she prefers “simple” when creating her own glamorous looks. “I love eyebrow pencil. L’Oréal Paris makes a beautiful brow pencil,” MacDowell tells PEOPLE at the L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth celebration on Nov. 21. “They have a new blush that’s a cream blush. I prefer cream blush. Their mascara is fantastic.” The Four weddings and one funeral The star, 66, also provided insight into her makeup routine. “When I do my own makeup, it’s very, very simple—although I do love a smokey eye,” says MacDowell. “I often do it with a bit of purple because it brings out the green in my eyes.”

MacDowell, in general, finds experimenting with colors and products exciting. “I enjoy wearing makeup,” says L’Oréal spokeswoman Paris. “So much fun. And that is one of the benefits. We can play with colors and lipstick and all that.” While speaking with PEOPLE, MacDowell also opened up about dealing with Hollywood’s body standards, saying she finds the turmoil many women go through exhausting.

“I did a fitting and the dress was really tight around my waist. It looked so good, but I woke up and I just knew it wasn’t right for me,” she says. “I wanted to wear something that was comfortable. And, of course, I was immediately embarrassed that I couldn’t fit into this dress.”

“But that’s Hollywood,” she says. “That’s the expectation, as you can see [daughter Margaret Qualley’s movie The Substance]to be something that you can no longer be and that was easier for you in some period of your life, but I can’t. I’m too old to starve myself for five pounds, non-stop. I just can’t take it anymore.”
