News about Andrea Bernstein

The audio series produced by Bernstein and Marritz is an investigative documentary that follows several flops that culminated in the invasion of the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. They announced that they are leaving WNYC after 20 years to work on a new series with Audacy owned by Pineapple. Street Studios, produced by Wind of Change, Missing Richard Simmons and 70 Over 70. This is his first production since that announcement.

The untitled show will examine the uprising, how the attack came perilously close to overthrowing democracy from within, as well as Trump’s continued denial of key details surrounding the events of January 6 and his recent statement that “I am not like the blows!” It comes at a time when Republicans in Congress have resisted an impartial, nonpartisan investigation similar to that of the 9/11 panel.

Nearly every red alert, from the rise of domestic terrorism to the radicalization of the police and military, went unanswered by a wounded democratic system and a law enforcement machine focused on foreign threats. Like 9/11, clear warnings went unheeded and cooperation between federal and local intelligence organizations was lacking. It will explore the various ways in which the Trump administration actively contributed to the circumstances that led to the first attack on the Capitol in more than 200 years and the ineffectiveness of the government’s response to the threat of attack.

Pineapple Street Studios, according to Bernstein, is a leader in producing beautifully written and audio-rich multi-part series. We are delighted to have a home for our research work there. Marritz continued: “Pineapple has produced some of my absolute favorite nonfiction podcasts. We are honored to work with some of the best and brightest audio producers in the industry.

Pineapple Street Studios co-founders Jenna Weiss-Berman and Max Linsky expressed their greatest pride in working with Andrea and Ilya. We’ve long been fans of their distinctive and ambitious brand of investigative narrative sound, and what they learn about the January 6 uprising will give us all the background we desperately need to know about that day and what caused it.
