Andrea Bocelli’s 3 Children: All About Amos, Matteo and Virginia

Legendary singer Andrea Bocelli founded his own musical family.

The Italian tenor had two sons, Amos (29) and Matteo (26) with his first wife Enrica Cenzatti. More than a decade later, he welcomed his youngest child, daughter Virginia (12), with his girlfriend at the time, Veronica Berti. Andrea and Berti got married in 2014 on their daughter’s second birthday.

Andrea described music as an “integral part” of the Bocelli family. He said America Domani: “We sit at the piano as often as at the kitchen table. These are beautiful moments that we share as a family at home and on stage.”

Besides being their father, Andrea also collaborated with his children on their own musical journeys. As a trio, Andrea, Matteo and Virginia released a holiday album in 2022 Family Christmas after several joint performances in previous years. In an interview with Classic FM in December 2022, Andrea said the album was a “wonderful and incredible opportunity” to remind people of the importance of family.

“Family has always been the most important thing in my life,” he explained. “And for me it’s also an incredible opportunity to work, to stay, to live with my children.”

Amos Bocelli, 29

Amos Bocelli was born on February 22, 1995 in the family of Andrea and mother Cenzatti. Andrea’s first-born son was named after a special person in the singer’s life. According to Andrea’s website, Amos is named after Amos Martellacci, a man from Andrea’s hometown who mentored him in college “with generosity and determination” until the singer graduated with a law degree.

Although Andrea said his older son has “more of a scientific mind,” Amos still trails Andrea in his musical abilities. In 2013, Amos accompanied his father on the piano at the music festival in Sanremo.

He graduated in piano at the Luigi Boccherini Institute for Musical Studies. Along with his degree, Amos also earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in engineering from the University of Pisa and is pursuing a career as an aerospace engineer.

He has held several jobs, including internships at the European Space Agency and the investment company Pictet Asset Management. He was also on the board of Almud Edizioni Musicali and the Andrea Bocelli Foundation for several years.

In February 2023, Andrea shared a birthday tribute to his eldest child, sharing a black-and-white photo of Amos helping him ride a skateboard, captioned “Happy birthday @amosbocelli!”

Matteo Bocelli, 26

Matteo Bocelli was born on October 8, 1997 in the family of Andrea and mother Cenzatti. Like his father, Matteo is a musician. “I’ve been playing music since I was little,” Matteo told PEOPLE in 2018. “I followed my dad when I could, and I’ve been playing the piano since I was 6.”

As a child, Matteo often sang – but only in front of his mother, not in front of his father because he was “a bit shy”. At one point, he said to himself, “‘I’d probably better get maybe a little instruction from my dad.’ ”

Despite his musical abilities — including piano lessons at a local music school and vocal performances at the Luigi Boccherini Institute of Musical Studies in Tuscany, Italy — Matteo was initially unsure if he wanted to pursue singing.

“It wasn’t until I met David Foster that I really thought about being a singer,” he told za Gentleman’s Journal. “David was extremely important in the development of my father’s career and, without him, I don’t think I would be on this path. He was the person who said to me, ‘You have the skill and the technical ability; you should be on stage singing.’ ”

Matteo said Board in December 2021 that his father was “cautious” about his children being in public, so Matteo began his singing career at charity events and in more intimate settings. After honing his craft, Matteo made his public debut at age 18, singing “Verdi” at the Colosseum in Rome in 2017. Since then, he’s released a string of singles and collaborated with his father on the ballad “Fall on Me” from his 2018 album Si.

He and his sister Virginia also joined forces with their father on his Holiday 2022 album. Family Christmas. In May 2022, Matteo, along with his father, was a surprise performer at the Italian wedding ceremony of Kourtney Kardashian Barker and Travis Barker.

Matteo released his debut solo album on his father’s birthday, September 22, 2023.

“It’s pretty funny — I swear I didn’t pick the date. The label gave it,” he told PEOPLE ahead of the release, adding that it was a “good gift” for his father.

Andrea sent him off on Instagram on the day of the album announcement — MATTEO —, writing: “Today is one of those days for you. After a lot of hard work, struggle, worry, doubt and hope, the fruit of a lot of effort finally sees the light. Your dad remembers of that feeling: he knows it well.”

One of the songs on Matteo’s self-titled album was created in collaboration with Ed Sheeran.

“[Ed] she sent me a few songs, but the one I really, really, really loved was ‘Chasing Stars,'” the singer told PEOPLE in July 2023. “The story was so fitting for me because, of course, we both share a fact that we were born in a family that loved music, and we got that passion from our parents.”

Although Matteo told Classic FM that music was his “first goal”, he also dabbled in acting and composing. In 2022, he made his debut in George Miller’s film Three thousand years of longing with Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. Virginia Bocelli was born to Andrea and Berti in Montepepe, Italy on March 21, 2012. With more than a decade between his second and third child, Andrea said on his website that the age difference gave him time to learn as a parent. “I think becoming a father again now that I’m a grown man has helped me be a less anxious, stronger parent, more able to appreciate every moment with my children as they grow up with me every day,” he wrote.

Andrea opened up about raising her daughter after having two sons during an interview in September 2018 Time. “From a practical point of view it’s not that different from raising sons,” he told the newspaper. “We will share the same values ​​with her that we shared with them because I think my sons’ result is very good.”

From childhood, Virginia followed the rest of her family in musical footsteps. She made her public music debut at just 8 years old in December 2020 when she sang a duet of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” with her father as part of his Believe in Christmas live broadcast.

In December 2023, she joined her father at Good morning America for a performance of “Let It Snow”, singing while playing the piano. The performance came a month after Andrea released the deluxe edition Family Christmas.

Outside of music, Virginia has several hobbies, including modeling and gymnastics. In January 2023, she walked the catwalk in Monnalisa’s Fall/Winter 2023 show, according to her Instagram.
