Miss Universe 2020
She represented Mexico at the Miss Universe 2020 pageant held on May 16, 2021 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The competition was postponed from 2020 to May 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. She won the competition and became the 69th Miss Universe. She became the third Mexican woman to win the Miss Universe title after Lupita Jones and Ximena Navarrete.
During the final round of the competition, the judges asked her what she thought about the changing standards of beauty, to which she responded:
We live in an increasingly advanced society, and as society progresses, we are also constantly improving stereotypes.” “Today, beauty is more than just our appearance. To me, beauty is not only in our spirit, but also in our heart and the way we act. Never let others tell you that you have no value.”
When she was asked how she would respond to the coronavirus pandemic if she were the country’s leader, she said:
I don’t think there’s a perfect way to deal with a difficult situation like COVID-19. However, I think I would have implemented a lockdown before things got that serious because we’re losing so many lives and we can’t afford that. We have to take care of our people.
