Andy Cohen on His No. 1 Best Baby Hack — and Learning to Pick Your Battles

Andy Cohen shares insight into his parenting style — and why it doesn’t require fancy props.

On Saturday at BravoCon 2023 Ask Andy panel, Watch what’s happening live The host was asked about parenting advice from his book, Dad’s Diaries: The Year I Grew Up — which included being a better parent when you’re “just a little high.”

Cohen briefly revisited the parenting tip of the high before giving his biggest tip yet. His goal? Kids don’t necessarily need the best of the best when it comes to fancy gadgets.

“My big thing I learned from my baby nurse, Teresa — who also worked with Anderson [Cooper]she took us through a children’s camp — she really taught me about infants, don’t give them anything they get so addicted to,” he said.

In practice, this means that some baby essentials are not suitable for adaptability. “So none of my kids had pacifiers,” continued Cohen, 55. “I didn’t make a crib that shakes them to sleep, because what if I go somewhere and they don’t have an electric crib.”

Cohen also talked about raising his two children — son Ben, 4, and daughter Lucy, 18 months — in his 50s.

“I have to say that having kids later in life has been a blessing because I’m more in my own skin and I don’t think I’m the psychopath that I would have been 20 years ago,” Cohen concluded. “I think I’m a little more relaxed. ‘Okay, eat chips for breakfast, we’ll try again tomorrow.'”
