She started her career when she joined Stratagem Media in Mumbai. In October 1999, she started working as a Senior Media Planner at Dainik Bhaskar Group. At Dainik Bhaskar Group, she played a key role in launching the product in the Chandigarh and Haryana markets, following the successful day-one subscription model in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Her primary responsibilities include providing sales strategy assistance, conducting data analysis, and training the sales team to achieve management’s goals. In October 2000, she joined Lintas Media Group (then known as Initiative Media) and served as a director until October 2004. Anita joins Lintas Media Group to manage the Levers business, which involves overseeing the hair oil and oral care categories for well-known brands such as Nihar Hair Oil and Aim Toothpaste. Subsequently, she was responsible for new business development for SSC&B Lintas. In June 2004, she joined media company Mindshare as head of client leadership for Mindshare West, focusing on enhancing client relationships; she worked there until Match 2018. She led Mindshare to win the Best Engagement/Strategic Planner of the Year 2015 from Campaign India-South Asia. She was also part of the Mindshare team that won the Media Agency of the Year award at the Dainik Bhaskar Awards 2016.

After successfully leading the West Region for 13 years, she became Mindshare India’s Senior Vice President, New Business, in April 2018; she held this position until May 2020. In 2019, Anita, Zubin, and Ashutosh won the Campaign Asia-Pacific New Business Development Team of the Year (South Asia) Award for Mindshare India.

From June 2020 to March 2023, she served as CEO of Carat India Media and Marketing Agency. In March 2023, she became CEO of PR firm Dentsu Media South Asia, succeeding Divya Karani, who had been with the company for more than 10 years. Kotwani will lead all its media businesses in South Asia, including Carat, iProspect, Dentsu X, Posterscope and its media investment arm Amplifi.
