Anna Gainey Wikipedia, Liberal, Age, Twitter – The Liberal Party’s new president, Anna Gainey, is the ideal choice if the party wants to reposition itself as the party for young parents.

Gainey, 36, the daughter of legendary NHL player and former Montreal Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey, may be the first person to run for party president while expecting a child.
Gainey wasn’t spending much time in hospitality suites at Liberal gatherings during the autumn and winter of her presidential campaign because her daughter Audrey was born in December.
But Gainey defeated her lone rival, Brian Rice, who received 880 votes, to win the presidency on Saturday night with 1,477 votes cast.
As she did when she worked on Parliament Hill for Liberal cabinet ministers a few years ago and as a part of Justin Trudeau’s inner circle a year ago, she will probably be a low-key president who shuns the limelight to work in the background.

Gainey told Liberal delegates at the Montreal conference on Friday night, “I am determined. And like my father, I am able to raise my elbows in a corner.
Gainey’s close relationships with the president and his family are well known, thus Trudeau didn’t need to publicly support her for the position of president. On Saturday night, when she was publicly celebrating her victory, he jumped to the stage to join her.
Gainey is married to Tom Pitfield, the son of Michael Pitfield, Pierre Trudeau’s 1980s privy council clerk. Michael Pitfield was a boyhood buddy of Pierre Trudeau Gainey and Trudeau are connected by a shared tragedy from their pasts: they both lost siblings in misadventure-related accidents.
23-year-old Michel Trudeau perished in a British Columbia avalanche in 1998 while skiing. Laura Gainey, 25, was swept off the tall ship Picton Castle in December 2006 when in choppy waters about 1,000 km off Cape Cod.
Gainey and Trudeau both worked for causes in their siblings’ honour as a way to cope with their sadness. In the early 2000s, Trudeau devoted himself to raising money for the Canadian Avalanche Association and its drive to raise awareness of safety.
Gainey assumed leadership of the Gainey Foundation after the passing of her sister, Laura, and their mother, Cathy, who passed away in 1995 from a brain tumour when Anna, the oldest of the family’s four children, was just 17 years old.
Giving more than $2 million over the years to causes like the Camp Kawartha Environment Centre or the outreach programme at the Ottawa School of Art, the Gainey Foundation provides grants to environmental or arts organisations that support young people.
