A member of the police force for six years, until 2003, Ant was appointed as one of the youngest Tactical Firearms Team officers in UK history. Adding to his list of accomplishments, Wheeler Dealers the star also received two commendations for his bravery. Although the 44-year-old finally turned his attention to the world of cars in 2005, his experience in the police force remained behind him.

Speaking to Influx Magazine, Ant said: “I was in Her Majesty’s Constabulary for six years. When I was 18-and-a-half I joined the force. I knew I didn’t want to go down the education route with university etc., so ended up as police officer, and I can honestly say, it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I loved being in the police force. I was there for six years, and five years, 11 months and 29 days of that was amazing.”

He added: “I’ve received two commendations for bravery and faced a number of life-threatening incidents – which really opened my eyes to what people are capable of. When you’re standing in front of someone armed – that’s a real fear – it kind of makes it easier to stand on stage or in front of the camera. I’m always reminded of that and how lucky I am to be doing what I’m doing.”

The Bridget Jones’s Diary the actress (54) and the TV presenter met for the first time in April 2021, shortly after the death of her publicist Nanci Ryder. After stumbling upon the episode Celebrity bondsin which Ant restored classic cars for the deserving people in his life, Renée decided to join the show.
Her goal was to help twin nurses Jerome Cowan and Jerald Cowan who cared for Nanca in her final years. The pair have kept their relationship out of the limelight, which Ant admitted during an appearance on E!’s daily pop in August of that year: “Look… everyone knows that Renée and I got pretty close, because we kept it a secret for a while, and unfortunately some pictures were taken and published.”
He then went on to say that it was “a real pleasure” to work with the actress on the show, noting: “She’s super professional and can cook!”

Ant, who spends his time between the US, where his son Hudson lives, and the UK, where his eldest children Amelie and Archie live, introduced Renée to his children.

Back in July 2023, the motoring expert shared a photo of Renée, Amelia and Archie as they headed to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Captioning the image on his Instagram, Ant wrote: “@fosgoodwood how it started, how it ended x @landrover @radfordmotors”, and gently tagged his children as “absolute complete LEGENDS”.
