On June 8, 2021, Indian President Ram Nath Kovind appointed Anup Chandra Pandey as the Election Commissioner of India. Pandey assumed office on June 9, 2021. The official announcement is as follows:

In accordance with Article 324(2) of the Constitution, the President has pleasure in appointing Shri Anup Chandra Pandey, IAS (retired) (UP: 1984) as the Election Commissioner with effect from the date of his assumption of office.”
