She began her journalism career at Harper’s Bazaar in New York. She worked there for a while and then returned to India. She then joined The Sunday Magazine and gained attention for writing a detailed story about Bollywood’s mafia culture. She wrote her first book, Sholay: The Making of a Classic, in 2000, which was released on the occasion of Sholay’s 25th anniversary.
Her work has appeared in several national and international magazines and publications, including India Today, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Vogue. She hosts a movie review show called “Picture This” on NDTV 24X7 channel. She started the weekly commentary show “Front Row with Anupama Chopra” on StarWorld.
She is the founder and editor of the digital platform “Film Companion” and hosts it on YouTube, which provides critical reviews of films.
