Arati Prabhakar is an Indian-American engineer and United States government official. She came into the spotlight on October 3, 2022, when she was appointed Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and Chief Science Advisor to US President Joe Biden. She served as head of the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) from 2012 to 2017. She is the founder of the nonprofit Actuate. She is believed to be the first woman to lead the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) from 1993 to 1997.
