UGC provides dual degree
Simultaneous dual degree: Earlier, the University Grants Commission (UGC) announced that students will now be able to pursue two full-time academic programmes. They will be able to apply for these dual degree programs from the next academic year 2022-23. Diplomas can be obtained either at the same university or at different universities.
Students will be allowed to choose a combination of a graduate program and a UG program, two master’s programs, or two bachelor’s programs. The committee has also drawn up a set of guidelines regarding the same. Students who are willing to pursue dual academic programs simultaneously have to go through the guidelines published by the UGC.
UGC Important Guidelines for Joint Two Degrees
- Eligibility criteria for each of the programs will remain unchanged and admissions will be conducted based on existing UGC, university norms.
- Each student can attend two academic programs, one in regular physical mode and the other in open and distance learning (ODL)/online or up to two ODL/online programs simultaneously.
- If a student meets the requirements for attending postgraduate studies (UG), and also wants to enroll in a bachelor’s degree in another domain, he will be able to attend UG and PG studies at the same time.
- A student can attend two regular academic programs in the physical mode, provided that the timetables for one program do not overlap with the times for the other program.
- Degree or diploma programs under these guidelines will be governed by the regulations promulgated by the UGC. Also the respective statutory/expert councils, wherever applicable.
- Degree or diploma programs in ODL/online mode will be conducted only with those institutions of higher learning which are recognized by UGC/Statutory Council/Govt. of India for running such programmes.
- These guidelines will come into force from the date notified by the UGC.
- Students who have already attended two academic programs simultaneously prior to the notification of these guidelines cannot claim any retrospective benefits.
Following the new guidelines, students will be able to pursue two degree programs in fields such as science, social sciences, arts, humanities and a wide variety of disciplines. The guidelines will apply to all programs available across the country. Students can choose a combination of a graduate program and an undergraduate study (UG), two master’s programs or two bachelor’s programs.
