Ariana DeBose didn’t appreciate a joke about her at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards.
During Sunday’s awards ceremony, DeBose’s name was inserted into a running gag that hosts Bella Ramsey and Anthony Ramos made while presenting the award for best song at the ceremony. (DeBose’s Disney film Desire received a nomination for the song “This Wish.”)
While ribbing the nominees on stage, Ramsey, 19, listed DeBose, Jack Black and Ryan Gosling as “actors who also think they’re singers” as he read from a teleprompter. While the camera was filming DeBose, the 2021 Oscar winner story from the west sideTony Award nominee and longtime Broadway star, the actor looked momentarily confused by the joke before smiling and laughing.
After the ceremony, DeBose, 32, wrote on her Instagram Story, “No, I didn’t find it funny. Lol.”

Barbie“I’m Just Ken,” performed by Gosling, 43, eventually won best song on Sunday. Another song from Barbie, Billie Eilish “What Was I Made For?” won Best Original Song at the 2024 Golden Globes last week.
Other nominees for Best Song at the Critics Choice Awards included “What Was I Made For?” as well as Dua Lipa Barbie song “Dance the Night”, “Peaches” by Jack Black from Super Mario Bros. Movie and “Road to Freedom” by Lenny Kravitz from Rustin.
While Ramos, who appeared with DeBose in the HamiltonThe original Broadway cast, with Ramsey presenting the award for best song on Sunday, the pair cited Lipa, 28, Kravitz, 59, and Eilish, 22, as notable acts in the music industry before labeling DeBose, Black and Gosling as ” actors who also think they’re singers.”

Outside of his acting career, Black is part of the 2014 Grammy-winning band Tenacious D for Best Metal Performance. The band’s album from 2012. Rise of the Fenix it also received a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album at the time.
Last February, DeBose performed a musical number at the 2023 BAFTA Awards that shared praise for a number of female nominees for the awards and went viral after the ceremony. Although DeBose ended up joking about the unexpectedly viral rap, it appeared to be deactivate her Twitter account after social media users criticized her for her performance at the time.
