Ariana Grande Responds to Audrey Hepburn Biopic Speculation: 'You're Insane!'

Will Ariana Grande step out of Oz and onto a Roman vacation?

Talking to Access to Hollywood during the 2025 National Board of Review ceremony on Tuesday, January 7, the actress and singer opened up about whether she would ever be open to playing screen icon Audrey Hepburn in a biopic.

“Oh my god, why is everyone asking me that? You’re crazy!” joked the Wicked star, 31. “You’re crazy, you’re crazy, you’re crazy. You’re crazy. I love you.”

The question came after the interviewer told Grande that she’s “kind of channeled a little bit of Audrey Hepburn” in her fashion style lately, to which Grande replied: “I’ve always loved old Hollywood glamor — like Marilyn [Monroe] and Audrey were always my references.”

“I’ve always gravitated towards silhouettes from the ’50s, ’60s and retro vintage… I can’t even remember a time when that wasn’t my vision. But it was more fun to have more room to actually do it,” she told the paper. “My stylist, Mimi [Cuttrell]and I leaned all the way.”

One way she leaned in was the custom Loewe pastel pink satin backless dress she wore to Tuesday’s event, which featured a square bodice cinched in at the waist. The structured sheath dress floated right over Grande’s white, round-toed loungewear and matching pink satin scarf. She wore her blonde hair in a tight high ponytail with her bangs swept to the side.

Talking to Party tonightGrande similarly spoke of her love of the old Hollywood style and said of a potential Hepburn role, “It would have to be done so well and so perfectly… I don’t know,” adding that when a reporter told her she could do it, “That’s very kind.”

Rumors of Grande potentially playing Hepburn have been swirling amid some of her style choices lately, including Tuesday’s pink number, the tea-length metallic ball gown she wore to the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Friday, Jan. 3, and a yellow dress she wore to the 2025 Golden Globe Awards two days later.

The latter outfit was an archival Givenchy dress from 1966, which she and Cuttrell found, and it was “yellow because you’re following the yellow brick road,” Grande said Diversity during the pre-show. She also noticed that the color yellow was one of hers Wicked the Glinda “favorite color” character.

In a statement about the look, a Givenchy archivist said, “The gown is pale yellow silk with a hand-trimmed bodice … from the epic Givenchy Haute Couture/Audrey Hepburn era … one of the most important connections between designer and muse.”

Although the film’s plot was a secret at the time, it was written by Michael Mitnick. Mara, who was nominated for an Oscar for her work in The girl with the dragon tattoo and Songhe was also set to produce the film alongside Apple Studios, according to Deadline.

Mara, 39, gave an update on the project in an interview with Deadline in February 2024, saying it’s “not completely dead” but merely delayed.

“Luca won’t be directing it anymore, but the project is still very much alive,” she said at the time, adding, “I can’t say more than that right now.”
