Ariana Grande Says Her Family 'Always Offers Me Meatballs' Even Though She's Vegan: 'They Don't Want to Remember'

Ariana Grande opens up about the hard parts of being vegan.

The Grammy-winning artist is in the latest episode of the YouTube series Hot one. Although host Sean Evans ate vegan wings alongside Grande, she revealed that her family isn’t always so accommodating to her diet.

Evans asked Grande if she discovered a “perfect Venn diagram” between her plant-based diet and her Sicilian-American family’s cooking. “No, it’s so funny because my family always forgets,” he said A dangerous woman the singer replied, before quickly correcting herself: “I don’t think they forget; I don’t think they want to remember.”

Grande also added that her grandmother is one of the people in the family who has the hardest time remembering not to eat meat. “Nona always offers me meatballs, and I say, ‘No thanks, I’m still plant-based,'” added the singer in a sweet voice.

But Grande, whose seventh studio album Eternal Sun released on March 8, is not the only person in her family with a dietary restriction. Her brother Frankie Grande’s husband, Hale Leon, who joined the family in 2022 after their wedding, is also of plant origin, she said.

“I’m not alone, my brother-in-law Hale is vegan, so we have each other,” Grande said.

“I’m trying to get by on those Sunday dinners,” Evans added.

Episode of Hot onewhich was titled “Ariana Grande Hits a High Note While Eating Spicy Wings,” also featured some hilarious reactions from “Break Free” the artist as she made her way through the increasingly spicy hot wings.

Grande ended up wearing her spice quite well – which was a surprise. At the beginning of the show, she told Evans that she didn’t go into the interview with high expectations, and later mentioned that she brought bananas, candies and ice cream just in case.

“By the way, I’m not coming in proud or cocky or self-assured,” she told Evans. “I am broken, I am weak and honest.”

“You came prepared, you worked it out,” Evans said after Grande ate the spiciest wing, seemingly nonchalant.

Although Grande described the “fermented kimchi” sauce as a “romantic” note, she admitted that she didn’t like most of the hot sauces she tried during the interview, including one she called “disgusting.” When Evans noticed that she made a face after eating one of the wings, Grande explained why.

“My face has changed because I think I’m learning not to like hot sauce,” she jokingly replied.

Grande will play Glinda “the good witch” in the film adaptation of the musical Wicked will be released in November this year. She told Evans about some of her favorite parts of making music, including working with her friend and producer Max Martin and her love of looping machines.

“I’m such a music production geek,” she said.
