Arizona Cave Team Looking for Family of Late Hiker Whose Wallet Was Found: We Want to ‘Give a Little Happiness’

A team at Colossal Cave Mountain Park in Arizona is asking for the public’s help in finding the family of a deceased woman who previously hiked in the area.

According to a report by local outlet KGUN, Mancie Love had previously walked to the destination and lost her wallet during the trip.

Her wallet, the release said, contained Love’s driver’s license, as well as other identification, including old credit cards, Fry’s credit card and a library card.

The wallet was discovered by cave manager Dalton Carper, who, according to KGUN, has been charting a path for wild cave tours to resume for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.

He told the outlet, “We were crawling around for a while in a place that probably didn’t have many people around and we found it sticking out of the ground. Apparently it piqued interest when you see something lime green coming out of caves, so we picked it up.”

After finding the wallet, Carper told KGUN he enlisted the help of the cave coordinator, Laura Sylvia, to see if they could track Love online.

“We started looking for her and we found out that she passed away last January 30,” Sylvia told the newspaper. “She was 80 years old. So we started looking for family, but we couldn’t find any family members. There were no names listed in the obituary.”

Even after numerous Google searches and various social media searches, nothing came up, so Carper and Sylvia tried to contact the funeral home listed in her obituary. However, it was a dead end because the establishment did not get back to them, KGUN said.

“To bring back something that her family thought was gone forever, I think it would be special for them,” Carper said of the wallet in the sales outlet, while Sylvia stated, “We just want to reconnect you with this wallet and give you a little luck, and just get it right.”

Anyone with information about Love or her loved ones is now asked to contact Colossal Cave at (520) 647-7275.
