Art Garfunkel opens up about where his relationship with Paul Simon stands.
On Wednesday, December 11, the episode of the series Living with Kelly and Markfolk singer (83) performed the song together with his son, Art Garfunkel Jr., as the duo Garfunkel & Garfunkel.
During the segment, Kelly Ripa, 54, asked Garfunkel Sr. about his relationship with former music collaborator Paul Simon, 83.

“Do you think you’ll ever reconnect with Paul Simon?” Ripa asked.
From 1964 to 1970, the duo released a total of five studio albums as Simon & Garfunkel before breaking up. They have reunited several times over the years, once in 1981 for a special benefit concert in Central Park, but have a notoriously broken friendship.

“That’s the question I always get asked about it,” Garfunkel Sr. said. “I can’t speak for him. It’s really his life. I know we recently met for the first time in years. We had a period of estrangement for a few years until – he had a son who moved to where I live and I knew that I was going to run into Harper [Simon] and Harper organized dinner and Paul and I hung out for the first time in years. And it was very moving.”

In a recent interview with The Times, the eight-time Grammy winner revealed that he met up with his “Bridge Over Troubled Water” collaborator earlier this fall.

“We were together for the first time in many years,” Garfunkel said in a Nov. 11 interview. “I looked at Paul and said, ‘What happened? Why haven’t we seen each other?’ Paul brought up an old interview where I said some things.”
