Tory Lanez Denied Bail Pending Appeal at Latest Hearing for Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Case: Reports

Tory Lanez, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August, has been denied bail pending the outcome of his appeal of his three-count convictions for shooting Megan Thea Stallion in the legs in July 2020.

According to Rolling stoneLanez – whose real name is Daystar Peterson – had asked to stay out of prison while he appealed his conviction, but a Los Angeles judge denied that on Thursday.

Judge David Herriford refused bail, citing the “violent crime” for which Peterson was convicted and his “history of violating court orders,” citing protection orders he had previously violated and the fact that he was at risk of deportation as a Canadian citizen.

During the hearing, Lanez was represented by attorneys Crystal Morgan and Michael Hayden of the nonprofit legal group Unite the People.

Reporter Meghan Cuniff — who covered the trial in detail — wrote on X (formerly Twitter) after a request was denied that “Lanez grinned at his supporters, including his father and friends from legal services group Unite the People, before he was led away.”

Outside the courtroom, the rapper’s appeals lawyers made a statement Cuniff about the outcome of the hearing.

“We argued the elements of our case and the judge disagreed with our side,” said one lawyer. “It’s happening. But this is just the first step in the appeals process.”

In December 2022, the “Plan B” rapper was found guilty after a nine-day trial in Los Angeles Superior Court, where he was convicted of assaulting Megan with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

The violent incident happened after a pool party at Kylie Jenner’s Los Angeles home. Megan, her former assistant and former friend Kelsey Harris and Lanez left the party in a Cadillac Escalade and ended up in an altercation in the vehicle, which spilled onto the pavement in the Hollywood Hills.

According to prosecutors in court, as Megan – whose real name is Megan Pete – started to leave, she heard Lanez yell “Dance, bitch!” and he then started shooting at her with a 9 mm pistol. After the event, Megan was hospitalized and underwent surgery.

When Megan gave evidence about the incident last year, she said she was “in shock” and “scared”.

“I hear a gun go off. I couldn’t believe he was shooting at me,” she said. “He was holding a gun and pointed it at me.”

Last month, in his first statement after the sentencing, Lanez maintained his innocence.

“I’ve never let a hard time intimidate me. I’ll never let any prison sentence eliminate me. No matter how they try to twist my words, I’ve always maintained my innocence and always will,” he wrote on Instagram,

Lanez added that he “took responsibility for all the verbal and intimate moments I shared with the parties involved… That’s it.”

“I’ve faced adversity all my life and every time it looked like I was going to lose, I came out on top. This is nothing but another moment where my back is against the wall and I refuse to stop fighting until I come out victorious. Tough times don’t last, difficult people do.”

The musician ended his statement by thanking his friends, family and fans for their “constant support”.

According to the Associated Press, Lanez told the court that he takes “full responsibility” for what he did the night of the incident.
