Artem Chigvintsev and Nikki Garcia Marked 2-Year Wedding Anniversary Days Before His Arrest

Artem Chigvintsev and Nikki Garcia (formerly Nikki Bella) celebrated their second wedding anniversary two days before Dancing with the stars pro was arrested.

“Happy anniversary my love, I can’t see my life without you,” Chigvintsev (42) wrote on Instagram alongside photos from their wedding day. “You are my everything ❤️”

The retired WWE star, 40, also reflected on the couple’s love story on their anniversary as she shared the lyrics to Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”

“This song is our love story,” she wrote alongside a video from their wedding day. “I will never forget where I was when I asked Jesus about Artem. Conversation with Him and God. How my feelings felt too soon. Everything seemed too fast. And then this song was created.”

“And then I knew that I was falling in love with him and that it was meant to be. 🙏🏼✨,” she continued.

She concluded: “Happy anniversary @theartemc I love you! ❤️‍🔥”

The anniversary announcement came two days before Chigvintsev was arrested on Thursday, August 29, as TMZ first reported.

According to admission records obtained by PEOPLE, the booking code shows that Chigvintsev is charged with corporal injury to a spouse and has bail set at $25,000. Although it remains unclear at this point, given the charge, Garcia is likely the spouse in question.

Garcia’s rep tells PEOPLE, “This is a private matter and Nikki is asking for privacy for her and her family at this time.”

Chigvintsev’s representative did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The Total Bellas alum and Chigvintsev met in 2017 when they became partners at DWTS. At the time, Garcia was still in a relationship with then-fiancé John Cena, but the couple broke up a year later.

The retired WWE wrestler later reconnected with Chigvintseva that same year, and the two finally confirmed their romance in March 2019. They announced their engagement eight months later, and welcomed their first child together, son Matteo, in July 2020.

Garcia revealed in November 2020 that the couple began counseling couples after the birth of their son.

“We hear a lot of stories about where there are sacrifices in your own relationship because it’s about children,” she said Show in the Tamron Hall. “Artem and I, from the very beginning, want to know: How are we going to balance this for Matteo and our relationship?”

A year later, Garcia shared news of their relationship on Podcast Bellasfinding that they had overcome a difficult situation. She explained that it was difficult when both she and her son were separated from Chigvintsev for a long time while she was a judge at AGT: Extreme.

“Teo goes everywhere with mom,” she said. “He’s comfortable there, he’s the best there. And, you know, it was difficult [Artem]It was also hard for me that my man was not in bed for more than six, seven weeks.”
