Arunima Sinha is an Indian mountaineer and former national volleyball player, famous for being the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest and Mount Vinson.

Arunima Singh was born on July 20, 1988, as Sonu Sinha (Age 35; as of 2023) It is located in Akbarpur city in Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. She received her education at Government Girls International College, Akbarpur, Uttar Pradesh.
She completed her mountaineering course from Nehru Mountaineering Institute in Uttarkashi. She also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Strathclyde.

After a tragedy in which she lost one of her legs, Arunima decided to climb Mount Everest and took a basic course in mountaineering at Uttarkashi Jawaharlal Mountaineering Institute. After training under the guidance of Bachendri Pal, the first Indian woman to climb Mount Everest; on May 21, 2013, she became the first female amputee in the world to reach the summit of Mount Everest By.

- On April 12, 2011, Arunima Sinha set off from Lucknow to Delhi. She took the Padmavati Express train to write the CISF exam. The robber pushed her out of the car and tried to steal her bag and gold chain. Recalling the tragedy, she said:
I resisted and they pushed me off the train. I couldn’t move. I remember seeing a train coming towards me. I tried to stand up. By then, the train had run over my leg. I don’t remember what happened after that. “
- After the incident, Arunima was taken to hospital where she was diagnosed with severe injuries to her legs and pelvis. To save her life, doctors had to amputate her leg.
