Arunima Singh was born on July 20, 1988, as Sonu Sinha (Age 35; as of 2023) It is located in Akbarpur city in Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. She received her education at Government Girls International College, Akbarpur, Uttar Pradesh.

She completed her mountaineering course from Nehru Mountaineering Institute in Uttarkashi. She also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Strathclyde.
