Profession
The famous hairstylist and instructor of his hairstyling course “Jasbir Arora” was impressed with his work and invited him as his assistant. When Darshan was in the third month of his course, Jasbir offered him a job at a salon in Indore. Sharing the incident in an interview, Darshan said:
The salary is 3500 rupees! I was 16 years old that year. I just turned 12! But I got tired of that job and returned to Pune. One day I got a call from a senior who nonchalantly invited me to visit him in Mumbai, where I had a job at a cool salon and was shooting for a Bollywood film. The word “shooting” intrigued me. I connected to the world outside the city through television and movies. He said he was shooting with Sanjay Dutt. So I came to the set of “Musafir”. “
In 2003, he started working as a hair stylist at Hakim’s Aalim in Versova, Mumbai, Maharashtra. He worked there for almost 10 years and after quitting his job, he started a barber shop “D Shave” in Mumbai. He then received an offer to work for Indian actor Salman Khan, with whom he quit after nearly five years. In an interview, he shared that life was not easy for him after leaving Salman’s job. He said,
After leaving Bhai, I went through a really bad phase without any real results. I opened a salon and within a year I had to close it. I was 22 years old at that time. I had no money, lived in a hut, and was hungry most of the time. But going back wasn’t an option because I couldn’t go to him as a loser. In the four years before I found Ram-Leela, I had hit rock bottom. I am a simple Maratha townie, I am not fluent in English and people even laugh at my name. “
He later worked as a hairstylist for many Indian actors including Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor. Ranveer Singh came into the limelight after he was appointed as his chief hairdresser. He has styled Ranveer Singh in several Hindi films such as Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), Bajirao Mastani (2015) ) and “83” (2021).
His work in the Hindi film ’83, in which he replicated legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev in Ranveer Singh, was highly appreciated by industry veterans Dev)’s styling. In an interview, when talking about creating the look, he said:
The biggest compliment I’ve ever received from industry veterans is: “You guys nailed it!” The whole experience has been overwhelming, to say the least, especially since it’s relatively easy to work from one person’s imagination, but copy everyone else The imagination part just adds extra pressure. “
He added,
It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be involved in such a large and historic project. Kabir sir gave me a very simple brief when we first met – copy “that” hair. We had to go through tons of photos of Mr. Kapil to make sure every curl and wave was just right. We conducted almost four to five look tests to achieve the exact ‘Kapil Dev look’. And then there’s his classic mustache. I had to be very precise with how much hair to trim, which is literally removing one strand slowly, to make sure we got the look just right. “
Darshan has also worked as a hairstylist in a few reality TV shows and led a team in the hairdressing competition ‘L’Oreal Color Trophy’.

I faced it firsthand in the salon. We have a complete range of protective gear, from masks and face shields to disposable gloves, capes, aprons and foot coverings. He continued,
No one anticipated such an unprecedented time. It was easy at first, but I got the hang of it and adapted quickly. I have been a workaholic all my life and especially the last eight years with Ranveer Singh were filled with shoots and lots of shooting. So I didn’t take a break. This gave me time to relax a bit. It healed my body and mind and allowed me to reconnect with the people I loved.
