Profession

Aryan Pasha is a practicing lawyer who worked for the NGO Multiple Action Research Group (MARG), providing legal training to other social activists. He is an advocate for inclusivity and equality and continues to push the government to support inclusive sporting events – something that is generally lacking in Indian and international events. In 2017, he decided to participate in bodybuilding competitions and started preparing for the men’s bodybuilding event “Musclemania India”. Since this is a natural bodybuilding competition, competitors are not allowed to take hormone supplements, including testosterone. He told organizers that, as a transgender man, he needed to take regular doses of testosterone as part of hormone replacement therapy after surgery, and decided he would just skip the final dose before the competition. By participating in the Musclemania Contest in 2018, he became the first transgender person from India to compete in a bodybuilding competition, finishing second in the men’s category.
