Asha was born on 8 September 1933 in Sangli, Maharashtra, British India (age 90; as of 2023). Along with her sister Lata Mangeshkar, she was classically trained by her father Deenanath Mangeshkar. She had a very close relationship with her sister Lata Mangeshkar during her childhood. Lata takes her with her wherever she goes. She even brought Asha to school. Asha was only nine years old when her father died. This is a difficult time for the family. To support her family, she took up acting and singing along with her sister Lata Mangeshkar. They moved from Pune to Mumbai on the insistence of family friend Vinayak Guru.
In 1943, when Asha was just 10 years old, she got the opportunity to sing “Chala Chala Nav Bala” for the Marathi film “Manjha Bal”. At the age of 16, she eloped with 31-year-old Ganpat Rao Bhosle and married him.

Asha made her Hindi film debut in 1948 with the song “Saawan Aaya” from the film Chunariya. In 1949, she recorded her first Hindi solo song for the film Raat Ki Raani.
In the 1960s, the playback singing industry was led by Geeta Dutt, Shamshad Begum and Lata Mangeshkar. Asha only gets those assignments that they reject. In 1954, Raj Kapoor signed her to sing “Nanhe Munne Bachche” with Mohammed Rafi in the film “Boot Polish”. This song earned her huge popularity.
Bosler got her big break in 1956 with the film “CID,” her first voiceover for a film heroine. In 1966, she collaborated with RD Burman and composed many hit scores for films such as “Kaala Pani”, “Kaala Bazaar”, “Lajwanti”, “Sujata” and “Teen Deviyaan”. Her song in the film Teesri Manzil catapulted her to fame and won her widespread acclaim. She has also lent her vocals to westernized songs like “O Haseena Zulfonwali”, “Aaja Aaja” and “O Mere Sona Re”. All three sang with Mohamed Rafi and achieved success.
