Ashley Park Admits She Thought Brooklyn Was a 'Stop on the Subway' for a Full Year

Ashley Park is willing to admit her mistakes – and New York City geography seems to be one of them.

During the performance at Late Night with Seth Meyers September 18 Emily in Paris the actress admitted a pretty big mistake she made several times during her first year of living in New York.

Park, 33, said the first season of the Netflix series marked her first trip to Paris, so she “went through every Airbnb experience” and “discovered every part of it [city],” but when she returned to New York, she realized, “I haven’t discovered anything about this city.”

Her lack of research went as far as a year long confusion about what Brooklyn was.

“Everybody’s going to think I’m really out of it. I used to think — the first year I lived here, I thought Brooklyn was a subway station. Like, you know, like 50th Street,” she admitted. – I didn’t know it was a land mass.

Seth Meyers then joked that Park “learned a little bit about it [Brooklyn] and then it stopped again,” as she was shocked to hear him say that the city could rank among the largest cities in the US

“I think I figured it out when a friend said, ‘I live in Brooklyn.’ I said, ‘Oh my God, I know someone else who lives in Brooklyn, like, do you know this person?’ Because I thought it was, like, a little neighborhood.”

When the clip ended, she told the crowd, “Now I know things, people.”

Park has finished a long press tour for the fourth season Emily in Pariswhere she plays the best friend and roommate, Mindy, of the main character (Lily Collins).

This season brought the actress the biggest challenge in this role because she had to perform topless for a scene in the second part of the fourth season where her character agrees to perform in a cult Parisian cabaret known for its naked dancers.

“It was so stressful and difficult,” Park told PEOPLE. “If it wasn’t for choreographer Kyle Hanagami coming in and my team around me, I don’t think I would have gotten through it.”

The actress said she’s “actually very proud now” looking back at the scene, where she dances topless to Britney Spears’ “Oops!… I Did It Again,” and said it’s a scene she’ll “never forget.”
