Ashok Saraf is an Indian actor and comedian who appears mainly in Hindi and Marathi films and TV series. He is known for his extraordinary comedy skills.

Ashok Saraf was born on 4 June 1947 in the central province of Nagpur and Berar, British India (now in the state of Maharashtra) (age 72; as of 2019) . His hometown is Belgaum in Maharashtra. His zodiac sign is Gemini. He spent most of his childhood in Chikalwadi, south Mumbai. Saraf studied at DGT Vidyalaya, Mumbai. At the age of 18, Saraf started performing in Marathi plays. His first commercial drama in Marathi was Yayati Aani Devyani.

Ashok Saraf was born into a Hindu family. Not much is known about his parents and siblings. He is married to Nivedita Joshi Saraf, a film and television actress, and they have a son, Aniket Saraf, who is a pastry chef.
Ashok is allegedly linked to Marathi actress Ranjana Deshmukh. The incident came to light when the actress died in an accident.

Ashok Saraf started his acting career in 1969 with the Marathi film “Janaki”. He subsequently appeared in films like “Donhi Gharacha Pahuna”, “Jawal Ye Laju Nako”, “Tumacha Amacha Jamala”, “Chimanrao Gundyabhau”, “Deed Shahane”, “Haldikunku” and “Duniya Kari Salam”. In the 1980s and 1990s, he was considered one of Marathi’s two comedy superstars, along with actor Laxmikant Berde.
Saraf redefined the term comedy in Marathi films Ashi Hi Banava Banavi, Aayatya Gharat Gharoba and Dhum Dhadaka.
Ashok has played some important roles in Bollywood movies like “Singham”, “Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya”, “Gupt”, “Koyla”, “Yes Boss” and “Karan Arjun”.

He has also appeared in highly successful television serials such as “Yeh Choti Badi Baatein” and “Hum Paanch”. In 2000, he starred in Sahara TV’s comedy show Don’t Worry Hojayega, which became a hit.

- In 2012, when he went to attend the press conference of the film “Gol Gol Dabyatla”, he encountered another major accident but survived.
