Surendra Prasad Yadav is an Indian RJD politician. He served as an MP and MLA during a political career spanning more than three decades. He is considered the leader of Baahubali in Gaya region of Bihar.

He first met Lalu Prasad Yadav in 1981 when Lalu was a member of the Lok Dal Party and joined the , later joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which was formed in 1997. He contested the Lok Sabha elections from Jehanabad seat in 1985; however, he failed to win. In 1990, he won the Beraganj seat in the Bihar legislative elections and won seven consecutive terms from the same seat. In 1998, he contested Lok Sabha elections from Jehanabad constituency and won; however, when he fought again from the same seat, he lost.
He has held several important portfolios in the Bihar Cabinet, including the Departments of Industries, Excise and Cooperation. He has also served as a member of several committees, including the Coal Ministry Advisory Committee, Ministry of Industry Standing Committee, Bihar Library Board, Bihar Housing Board and Bihar Request Committee.

Lok Sabha rips up women’s reservation bill
On July 20, 1998, when he was the Lok Sabha MP from Jehanabad constituency, he snatched a copy of the Women’s Reservation Bill from the then Law Minister M. Thambi Durai and tore it up. He then walked to the Speaker’s table and threw a copy of the bill into the air. This move brought an eternal stain on the Lok Sabha elections and Yadav could not win again in the Lok Sabha elections. In April 2023, while speaking on Ambedkar Jayanti, he claimed that Dr BR Ambedkar appeared in his dream and told him to prevent the passage of the bill and hence he tore up the bill. He said,
Baba Saheb appeared in my dream and told me to prevent the original constitution from being tampered with. I tore up the copy of the bill as he ordered. ”

He has been accused of assaulting political opponents on multiple occasions. In 1991, when Palit was campaigning for former Bihar chief minister and then Congress candidate Jeetan Ram Manjhi, he assaulted former Congress MP Jai Kumar Palit. In 2002, he allegedly kidnapped Atul Prakash Sinha, held him hostage in his home for two days and beat him severely.
Revealing the identity of a rape victim
On June 14, 2018, a group of people raped a woman and her 15-year-old daughter near Sondiha village under Konch police station. On June 15, 2018, when a police team was taking the teenage victim to the hospital for medical examination, a group of RJD supporters led by Yadav stopped the vehicle and forced the victim to narrate his ordeal. Some of Yadav’s supporters took photos and made videos of the victims. The incident sparked public outrage and the police subsequently registered a case against Yadav and others under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Opposition to the Agniveer Project
In February 2023, he made very controversial remarks about the Agniveer program implemented by the Army. He said that in 8.5 years, when India’s active military personnel retire, India will have a eunuch army (Hijron Ki Fauj). He went on to say that boys recruited through the Agniver program would have trouble getting married because no one wanted to give their daughters to retired men. He later called for the hanging of those who proposed the Agnieville plan.
Remarks against Bageshwar Dham
In May 2023, ahead of Pandit Dhirendra Shastri’s visit to Bihar, Yadav made a controversial statement saying Shastri made women and girls dancing in the name of ghosts at his shows and questioning why Pandit Shastri, the sister and mother of those who support him, don’t go to his shows.

In July 2023, a video went viral in which Dhanwant Singh Rathore, a resident of Samastipur and head of the Kshatriya Seva Mahasan Organization, threatened Surendra Prasad Yadav and his family and announced a reward of 1.1 Crores of rupees as a reward to anyone who dares to kill someone. Yadav. He claimed that Yadav made some lewd remarks to a woman member of the Beraganj Municipal Committee and he was forced to hang the bounty on his head.
