That 70’s Show star Ashton Kutcher has revealed that he suffers from a rare type of vasculitis in a new promotional trailer for Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge, which has been acquired by Access Hollywood. The autoimmune condition, according to the actor, temporarily interfered with his vision, hearing and balance. In the video, Ashton Kutcher tells TV personality and survivalist Bear Grylls that he had vasculitis a few years ago. The 44-year-old actor-turned-businessman said:
“I got this weird, incredibly weird type of vasculitis two (now three) years ago that destroyed my vision, disabled my hearing, destroyed, like, all my balance.”
Ashton Kutcher went on to say that it took him a year to recover. In the video, the Cedar Rapids, Iowa native says:
“You don’t realize how valuable something is until it’s gone… Until you say, ‘I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to see again, I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to hear again, I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to walk again.'”
What exactly is vasculitis? Ashton Kutcher’s vision, hearing and balance were compromised by an autoimmune condition.
Vasculitis is an inflammation of blood vessels, which includes arteries and veins. Due to inflammation, the arteries can thicken, reducing blood flow as the walls tighten. The most common symptoms of vasculitis, according to data collected from medical sites, are fever, sudden weight loss, discomfort and fatigue. Other organs in the body can be affected by the condition, including the digestive system, hearing, eyes, limbs, lungs and others.
In addition, vasculitis can cause stomach ulcers. It can also cause permanent or temporary blindness as a result of inflammation in the arteries surrounding the temples and scalp.
