Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari has been working at Leo Burnett Advertising Agency for 15 years. She left Leo Burnett to pursue her dream of making films. She made her directorial debut with the film Nil Battey Sannata (2016), which was internationally known as “The New Class”.
Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari directed the Tamil film Amma Kanakku, a remake of 2016 Nil Battey Sannata. She later directed a short film called What’s For Breakfast. She won the Filmfare Award for the 2017 romantic comedy Bareilly Ki Barfi. Soon after the success of the film Bareilly Ki Barfi, she received two film offers from Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Films. In 2018, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari co-founded a production company called Earthsky Pictures with her husband and she started directing commercial films for the television industry. In 2018, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari directed the film Panga, starring Indian actors Kangana Ranaut, Neena Gupta, Richa Chadda and Jassie Gill. The film was officially released on January 24, 2020. Ashwini El Tiwari received praise from critics for challenging stereotypes in the film. In 2021, she directed a web series titled “BreakPoint” under her production company, which follows the lives of famous Indian tennis players Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi. On April 22, 2021, at a media conference, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari said that she will soon release a documentary on the life of NR Narayana Murthy and his wife Sudha Murthy.
