Maha Siddiqui was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. She studied at St Agnes Loreto High School, Lucknow from 1985 to 1996 and La Martinier College for Girls, Lucknow from 1996 to 1998. She received her BA (Hons) in Botany from Miranda House College, New Delhi, in 2002 and her PG Diploma in English Journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Delhi in 2003. In 2007, she won a Chevening Scholarship in Broadcast Journalism at Bournemouth University, Poole, UK. Later, she was selected to attend a two-week course on American foreign policy.

She started her career in 2003 as Senior Copy Editor Online at The Times of India in New Delhi. In November 2003, she joined DD News as a reporter and anchor; she worked at DD News for four years. During her time at DD News, she covered politics, sports and foreign affairs and hosted a number of major programs.
In January 2008, Maha joined NewsX, which was a new channel at the time, as a senior reporter anchor. In an interview, she shared her experience at NewsX and said:
I’m excited to be part of the team helping to launch the new channel. Unfortunately, the channel has gone through a lot of ups and downs with changes in management, but nonetheless, it was a risk I was willing to take early in my career. I suddenly became aware of the vulnerability of private news organizations from public broadcasters, which from personal and professional experience has not proven to be a disaster. In fact, it was a great learning experience. “
In 2010, Maha started working as a senior special correspondent and anchor at TV Today Network in Noida. She covered foreign affairs and covered important issues such as drought in Maharashtra (2012), misappropriation of funds in the Bundelkhand package (2013) and elections. She was one of the few women journalists who reported and anchored live during the extremely challenging and tense situation during the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots.
After six years at India Today, Maha joined CNN News18 as Foreign Affairs and Anchor Editor; where she hosted the primetime show World 360.
In 2022, Siddiqui joined NDTV as Senior Editor, Foreign Affairs and Senior Anchor, hosting the programs “Left, Left and Center” and “India Global” on NDTV. Maha Siddiqui covers a range of important topics, including the Kartarpur Corridor, the SCO Summit in 2022, the G20 Summit and Narendra Modi’s visit to India in June 2023.
