SEBA, AHSEC will merge into a single board
Assam Board Updates: The State Government has decided and approved the decision to merge Assam Board of Secondary Education (SEBA) and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) into one board. The decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
According to a government announcement shared by the Assam CM and Education Minister on X, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam, (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will be merged to form a new body: the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB ).

Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) to be formed
An official statement reads: “To develop, regulate and monitor the standards and quality of school education, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, Assam (AHSEC) to be merged and constituted as the Assam State School Board for education’ (ASSEB).”

In Assam, class 10th and 12th exams have been separate for a long time. The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) conducts the Class 10 examinations, while AHSEC has been given the responsibility of conducting the Class 11 and 12 board examinations. The decision to merge the boards comes almost 8 months after the Assam 10th and 12th board exams were conducted.
On June 6, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a plan to merge SEBA and AHSEC. The decision was made by the state in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). “Employees employed by SEBA will not lose their jobs,” he said.
