Atanu Das was born on Sunday, April 5, 1992, in Bala Nagar, West Bengal, India (age 31; as of 2023). His zodiac sign is Aries. From 1997 to 2009, he attended school at Baranagar Narendranath Vidyamandir in Baranagar, West Bengal. He received his BA (Honours) from Vinayaka Mission University, Salem, Tamil Nadu. At the age of 14, he started learning archery under the guidance of Indian coach Mithu Da. In 2008, he entered the Tata Archery Academy and studied under Korean coach Lim Chae Wong.

While he was training at Tata Academy in Jamshedpur, he met Indian archer Deepika Kumari. Initially, they did not talk to each other due to the language barrier. Gradually, they started talking and became good friends. In 2017, after losing at the World Championships in Mexico City, they began to develop an emotional connection and quickly fell in love with each other.
In 2018, the couple got engaged. The couple got married in a private ceremony on June 30, 2020, at Morabadi, Ranchi, in compliance with the COVID-19 pandemic guidelines.

As a teenager, he began to participate in various archery competitions in the country. In 2008, he made his international archery debut. He has participated in various archery competitions such as the Summer Olympics Outdoor Archery, Archery World Cup, Asian Games, Asian Outdoor Championships, National Games, Olympic Games, and National Youth Archery Championships.
His dominant hand in the game is correct. His coaches are Mithu Da, Lim Chae Wong and Juan Carlos Holgado. Atanu Das has been with the Bharat Petroleum Sports Promotion Board for a few years.
