After working there for nearly two years, he joined Zee Media Corporation Ltd. in Noida, India, as an associate producer and anchor. In March 2005, he started working with Network18 Media & Investments Ltd. in Noida as a news anchor and senior producer. He worked there for more than two years. While working there he covered Mayan sting operations targeting Hindu gurus and saints. In November 2007, he started working as AEP/Senior Anchor at News24 in Noida. The two major stories he covered were the Lok Sabha cash-for-ticket scam and the Delhi blasts special report. In November 2008, he joined the Voice of India Television Network in Noida as Group Editorial Head. He worked there for nearly a year and joined News India in March 2010 as Channel Head, News India Bihar and Jharkhand. He covered Mamata Banerjee’s special report on the Union Railway Budget. From October 2011 to March 2012, he worked as Deputy Managing Editor and Anchor at Sai Prasad Group of Companies in Noida. In April 2012, he joined Samachar Plus, Noida, as Executive Editor. Some of the major stories he has covered on the channel include Uncovering the conspiracy against IPS Uday Shanker Jaiswal, Lokayukt of Uttar Pradesh NK Mehrotra LIVE and Pagal Ho Gayi Panchayat. After working there for about 2 years, he joined News18 India in New Delhi as an Executive Producer. There, he hosted the news program “Bulletin” with Atul Agrawal. In December 2015, he served as editor of News World India in Noida. He also worked at news channel IBN7 Live.

He has also served as a campaign manager for various television productions, satellite affiliate and operations management, brand positioning, relationship management and web analytics.

Criticized for filing false robbery complaint
In 2021, Agrawal shared a post on Facebook claiming that he was robbed of Rs 5,000 by several assailants near Noida Extension. According to his Facebook account, he was driving a Safari when he was intercepted by a group of five people on a motorcycle near a police station in Bisrakh, Noida Extension, Gautam Buddha Nagar. Agrawal claimed that one of the thugs brandished a gun and demanded his valuables after pulling down his car window. Despite the alleged robbery, Agrawal did not file a formal complaint or FIR. Nonetheless, Noida police launched an investigation into the incident based on Agrawal’s social media posts. However, their investigation soon debunked Atul Agrawal’s fabricated claims as they confirmed that he had indeed visited an OYO hotel during the reported time and therefore the robbery could not have taken place. A team of five COG officers investigated the case. Addressing the media, Noida Police said,
We investigated all electronic and CCTV evidence relating to the alleged incident. The scribe claimed that the robbery took place near Hindon Pul around 1 am, after which he returned home. It was found through CCTV footage that he reached the Oyo hotel room in Sector 121 after 1 am and spent the night there. The distance between the hotel room and his home made this incident impossible. “
According to digital evidence collected by the Noida police, it was confirmed that Agrawal paid for the OYO room using his bank account, and Agrawal’s presence at the hotel was confirmed through CCTV footage. Noida police later said,
Taking all this evidence together, it is proven that Atul Agrawal did not commit a robbery incident and that this fake case was spread by him on social media due to personal family reasons. “
During the police investigation, it was discovered that Agrawal went to a female friend’s residence for dinner at around 7 pm on June 19. According to Agrawal’s colleagues, he left a friend’s house around 10.40 pm after receiving a call from his wife Chitra.
