Austin Butler Offers to Help Drew Barrymore Leave a Potentially Awkward Blind Date

Austin Butler has no problem helping a friend in need!

Tuesday, Elvis an actor stopped by, 32 years old The Drew Barrymore Show as he and Callum Turner promoted their new Apple TV+ historical drama miniseries Lords of the air.

During the Drew Barrymore show, she let her guests know that she was quite nervous about the upcoming date.

“Funny enough, I have my first date in a long time,” the host, 48, began.

Turner, 33, answered saying he was “excited” about her night out, but she admitted she wasn’t. “I’m not. I’m afraid of those things because, yeah, they’re uncomfortable,” Barrymore said.

Interested in learning more about the meeting, Turner asked what the plans were for the date.

“We wanted to go all the way downtown for this long dinner. Everyone says when you go on a date, ‘Don’t have dinner. Have a drink.’ But I don’t know any better,” the Charlie’s Angels the alum said.

“I like dinner,” Butler said of the evening plan, adding that sitting down to a meal gives you a chance to “actually talk.”

“You’re going to have a great time,” he assured her.

Barrymore still seemed hesitant, asking what she should do if she gets “weird vibes” from her date.

“Then you go to the bathroom and call your friend, and out of the blue he calls you,” Butler suggested. “You want me to do that?”

A seemingly relieved Barrymore admitted she met a “complete stranger” on a “dating app”.

This wasn’t the first time Barrymore has spoken out about finding love online.

During Friday’s episode of her show, Barrymore claimed she was quitting dating apps after a man she was chatting with lied about being an NFL quarterback. She told co-host Ross Mathews that she was “getting ready” to quit dating apps because of the interaction.

“Every time I go there, I don’t feel good. I always last five days,” Barrymore said of online dating. “This time my app has changed to show people like you, so that’s very flattering…but I don’t know who anyone is, and I’m just terrified of dating a stranger.”

Mathews jokingly let her know that was the point. “Newsflash, that’s how they work! You’re not supposed to know them. You don’t go on a dating app to meet people you already know,” he said.

She told Mathews that the person she was talking to online “said he was a quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams.” In reality, he was a musician who “thought he was cute.”

“You should feel ripped off. I had a fantasy that you’d be like the new Taylor Swift and be at the games,” the co-host joked.

Lords of the air debuted on Apple TV+ on January 26, with new episodes following on Fridays.
