Austin Butler and Timothée Chalamet were fast (on-screen!) enemies.
When asked how they established chemistry on the set Dina: The second part during the interview with Los Angeles TimesButler, 32, said: “We basically said goodbye and then we started fighting, trying to kill each other.”
But they weren’t exactly strangers even before the start of production on the upcoming sequel. As the Oscar nominee recalled, “We knew a lot about each other and have mutual friends and colleagues.”
“But we met for the first time in Hungary in a stunt rehearsal room,” Butler added of Chalamet, 28.
“It’s the best way to get to know each other,” director Denis Villeneuve said with a laugh.

Villeneuve, 56, explained that as part of their preparations, they “did some readings via Zoom because everyone was all over the planet and I wanted to hear the words before I locked everything down.”
“I felt there were some sparks between both actors. And I mean, they’re professionals. It’s their job to get along,” he added in his and Butler’s conversation with the publication.
Dina: The second part will “explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides (Chalamet) as he unites with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen as he seeks revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family,” reads the official synopsis.
“Faced with a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he strives to prevent a terrible future that only he can foresee,” the synopsis adds.
In the second trailer for the film, the emperor of the galaxy (Christopher Walken) enlists Butler’s Feyd-Rauth Harkonnen to get rid of Paul before he and the Fremen reclaim Arrakis.
A great battle rages across the desert planet, and the trailer ends with Paul proclaiming himself “Duke of Arrakis” — and foreshadowing a duel between him and Feyd-Rauth.
And while Butler, with his titular role in Elvishaving previously “explored life within that world for three years and since it’s the only thing I think about day and night”, this was not the case for his Dina: The second part character.
“With Feyd, I knew it would be unhealthy for my family and friends,” he said. “So I made a conscious decision to have a boundary. It allowed more freedom between action and cutting because I knew I was going to protect everyone else outside of the context of what we were doing.”
“That doesn’t mean it doesn’t bleed into your life. But I knew I wasn’t going to do anything dangerous beyond that line, and in a way that allowed me to go deeper, I think,” Butler added.
Dina: The second part it’s in theaters March 1.
